The US military announced on Sept 30 that it had completed the withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq, ending a 12-year anti-ISIS mission. The last troops left an air base in the Kurdish region under a 2024 US-Iraqi agreement. Iraqi officials hailed it as a sovereignty milestone.

The US military announced on Sept 30 that it had completed the withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq, ending a 12-year mission against ISIS.

The last troops departed an air base in northern Iraq's Kurdish region under a 2024 agreement between Washington and Baghdad. President Trump called the deployment 'a very expensive excursion into Hell'.

Iraqi officials hailed the move as a sovereignty milestone, though Kurdish leaders voiced concern about an ISIS resurgence and the influence of Iran-aligned militias.
