The government has named Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the next Chief of the Air Staff, effective October 31, in a key leadership change for the Indian Air Force.

The appointment comes at a busy moment for the force, with India inducting new platforms and the defence ministry signing a ₹661.50-crore BrahMos fire-control contract for Navy ships this week.

Dixit takes over the top job as the IAF juggles modernisation, indigenous programmes and a two-front threat assessment.

The transition on October 31 will be watched for any early signals on procurement priorities under the new chief.
