Odisha and Andhra Pradesh step up emergency preparations as a Bay of Bengal system threatens landfall around October 28, with schools shut in five Odisha districts.

Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have intensified preparations for a severe cyclonic storm expected to approach India's eastern coast around October 28, with authorities arranging emergency response measures.

Schools and colleges in five Odisha districts have been ordered to remain closed on October 28 and 29, while the system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rain across South India, Odisha and West Bengal, with red alerts issued in multiple states.

The India Meteorological Department has been tracking the low-pressure area, which was earlier expected to become a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26 over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
