Machado returns to Venezuela after 10 months in exile

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate announced her return after more than ten months in exile, appearing at a church in Barquisimeto as crowds chanted her name.
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado announced on October 25 that she had returned home after more than ten months in exile, a move that could reshape the country's ongoing political transition.
Within hours, videos on social media showed her at the church of Santa Rosa in Barquisimeto, where her party said she had gone to give thanks to the Divina Pastora, one of Venezuela's most revered religious images, as crowds pressed in chanting her name.
Edmundo González Urrutia, who ran in her place in the 2024 presidential election, confirmed her return and said he would join her soon, while US President Donald Trump said he hoped she stays safe and Secretary of State Marco Rubio called it the direct result of US-supported reconciliation talks.
