The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized foreign-origin gold worth ₹2 crore at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the latest crackdown on smuggling through the city.

Officers acted on specific intelligence, intercepted the consignment and confirmed the metal as foreign-origin gold. The seizure is part of the DRI's continuing watch on international routes that smugglers use to move bullion into the country.

Gold smuggling cases through Hyderabad's airport have been rising as price volatility widens the duty-arbitrage window, making each interdiction a data point for the agency's route-mapping.

The agency is continuing its investigation into the carriers and the wider network behind the consignment.
