As many as 1,029 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted by the traffic police across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates. Two-wheeler riders accounted for the majority of the violations in every jurisdiction.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked the highest number of offenders at 480 during a two-day drive on October 9 and 10. Malkajgiri police apprehended 284 motorists in the week ending October 10, while Cyberabad caught 265 during its weekend drive, including 237 two-wheeler riders, five three-wheeler drivers, 20 four-wheeler drivers and three heavy-vehicle drivers.

Separately, courts disposed of 257 drunk-driving cases registered in Malkajgiri and Cyberabad during the preceding week. Police said the special drives would continue, warning that offenders face fines, licence suspension and court prosecution.
