UP Cabinet clears renaming of Noida's Jewar airport after PM Modi
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as ‘Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida–Jewar’.
The renaming was paired with a cabinet resolution marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years of continuous public service. If it goes through, Jewar — the National Capital Region's second international airport — would become the first Indian airport named after a sitting Prime Minister.
Congress's Uttar Pradesh chief Aradhna Misra Mona attacked the decision as symbolism over substance, saying it would not create jobs. Political watchers read the move as part of the BJP's positioning ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
