Mandatory emergency braking for cars from 2030 proposed

India proposes mandatory automatic emergency braking on all new cars from October 2030 in a road-safety push.
The road transport ministry has proposed making automatic emergency braking mandatory for all new passenger cars from October 2030, with existing models to comply by October 2032.
The draft timeline also brings steering, lane-keeping and other safety norms into force in stages, supporting the goal of halving road accidents and fatalities by 2030.
The draft is open for public consultation for 30 days before the ministry weighs objections and finalises the rules.
