Russia hammered Kyiv overnight with hundreds of drones and over 21 ballistic missiles -- two killed, 34 injured -- hours after agreeing in principle to resume three-way talks. Zelenskyy called the strike deliberate; Ukraine fired 630 drones at Moscow in reply.

Russia unleashed one of its heaviest attacks of the war on Kyiv overnight, hours after US envoy Steve Witkoff hailed President Vladimir Putin as a 'humanitarian' following Russia's release of American teacher Stephen Hubbard. At least two people were killed and 34 injured, including five children, as hundreds of drones and more than 21 ballistic missiles struck the capital's historic centre, monastery buildings, homes, shops and cafes.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at least three of the missiles carried cluster munitions and called the strike deliberate in weapon, target and intent. Ukraine answered with its own mass bombardment, firing 630 drones toward Moscow overnight, injuring two people in the Russian capital, while officials reported one death and one injury in the Belgorod region.

The escalation came as the Kremlin said Putin had agreed 'in principle' to resume three-way negotiations involving Russia, the US and Ukraine after November 10. Zelenskyy said he would support such talks but was cautious about Moscow's intent: 'We'll see what happens this time,' he said shortly before missile alerts sounded over Kyiv.
