Supreme Court flags 14 defects in opposition's ECI petition; hearing delayed

The Supreme Court registry has identified 14 deficiencies in the INDIA bloc's writ petition against the Election Commission, titled “Rahul Gandhi vs Election Commission of India” and filed on October 12 at 4:37 pm through advocate S. Prasanna. The hearing will be listed only after the defects are cured, and the matter did not figure in the October 13 supplementary list.
The flagged defects include improperly named respondents, a missing copy of a prior ruling, absent affidavits from nine of the petitioners, a blurry identity document and a court fee short by ₹220. Registry scrutiny is routine, but the long defect list pushes any hearing further out.
The petition, filed by 11 opposition leaders including Gandhi, Kharge, Saugata Roy, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Raut, M.A. Baby, D. Raja, Mahua Majhi, Supriya Sule and E.T. Mohammed Basheer, alleges irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls. The respondents named are the ECI and commissioners Gyanesh Kumar, Sukbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
