US businesses sue Trump administration over 50% tariffs on Canadian goods

A group of American businesses has sued at the US Court of International Trade, arguing the president had no legal authority to impose 50 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods.
A coalition of American businesses has filed suit against the Trump administration at the US Court of International Trade, challenging the 50 per cent tariffs imposed on Canadian goods. The plaintiffs argue the president lacked legal authority to levy the duties.
The Liberty Justice Center, representing food importer Gellert Global Group, contests the administration's use of a never-before-invoked section of the 1930 Tariff Act. The suit asks the court to block further collection and order refunds with interest.
The case adds to the legal pressure on the administration's sweeping tariff programme, which has rattled global markets and supply chains. Business groups say the duties are inflating costs for American importers and consumers alike.
