WPI inflation jumps to 11.39% in September as fuel and food prices surge

Wholesale price inflation rose to 11.39% in September from 9.92% in August, driven by fuel and power inflation of 25.85% and broad-based price pressures.
The Commerce and Industry Ministry said the increase was broad-based: primary articles at 8.67%, fuel and power at 25.85% and manufactured products at a series high of 9.76%.
Crude petroleum and natural gas recorded 57.32% year-on-year inflation, and mineral oils 40.02% — with the ministry blaming the West Asia war and the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
Retail inflation also rose to a 23-month high of 5.54% in September, complicating the RBI's task after last week's 25-basis-point rate hike to 5.50%.
