A lighting truss collapsed during a Dandiya night at MVSR Engineering College on October 18, killing an 18-year-old student and injuring 16 others; police are probing safety lapses.

An 18-year-old engineering student died and at least 16 others were injured when a lighting truss collapsed during a Dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadergul on the night of October 18. The deceased, first-year B.Tech student Narayandas Sona from Wanaparthy district, was rushed to a private hospital but died during treatment.

The collapse occurred during Sangamam-2026, the college's two-day national technical and cultural fest. Police said preliminary findings point to strong winds, though investigators are examining whether the temporary structure met safety standards and whether risk assessments were done before the fest.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock and ordered strict action against those responsible, while directing the best possible medical care for the injured. Students and parents have alleged negligence by the college management in setting up the rig, and police have booked the management and the event organiser as the probe continues.
